“…the world slips into color then out…”

TM8175 Fogged Morning at the Pond 24x24 oil on panel

In early June the atmosphere can be moist and mysterious. The summer’s abundant growth is only a suggestion, and the watery reflections are still crisp and luminous – no choking duckweed or pickerelweed yet. Even the most ordinary places can seem ethereal.

The more I study this inland pond, the more I see a correspondence to qualities I found while painting the sea. Rhythm and movement, the sense that something is slipping away, all are part of the pond also, though in a more subtle form. Future paintings will explore this further. Enjoy!
