The Pond Series continues with one more invitation to a swim at the quarry pool. With all the rain, the water is deep and cool. Enjoy!
Technical painting notes – When painting water with oil paint, it is useful to start with transparent underpainting and glazes, then add slightly opaque highlights as the last step. The more opaque color will float forward, while the transparent color will seem to sink, increasing the sense of depth. Also, as in watercolor, the transparency will allow light to go through the paint and reflect back from the light primer, giving a luminosity to the water.
