One necessity for a (land) or pondscape artist is constant field trips to the source. My daily routine now includes stops at the pond to check on color changes, new growth, blooms and the increasingly symphonic avian, amphibian, and reptilian life. I always bring my field camera, a small 10x zoom Nikon Coolpix. I shoot details and views for development into paintings, printing the photos for reference and storing them in binders according to subject. The photos will not be copied with paint, but they will serve to remind me of what I experienced as I work up a more abstract and intuitive interpretation of the place.
