Among the new pondscapes is From the Shallows, a view from the surface of the pond with pickerel weed pushing up through the water and duckweed. A few of last years leaves are scattered on the surface, along with some new leaves blown about by last week’s storm. As I continue studying and painting the pond, I realize that much of the painting is about traces of evidence – those physical facts that give clues of the life that is out of sight. The paintings are about the quality of air and temperature, the complexity of changing seasons, the energy and life force that lurks just below and slips along the surface of the water. And then there are the reflections of ghostly trees and shimmering shadows. The more I look, the more I see what is unseen. I think you will too. Enjoy!
