TM8364 Waiting for the Lilies to Open 24×24 oil on panel
I love going back to favorite places and repainting them. It’s always a surprise. With more experience, I usually see things differently. And of course the weather and season each offer new perspectives as well.
With that in mind, Waiting for the Lilies to Open is part of an ongoing relationship I have with a small island at my pond. The newer version, from a slightly different perspective, is a few weeks later in the season when the lilies are sending their tight-fisted buds up and out of the water. I chose to emphasize contrasts in the newer version, especially in the glassy water. Maybe it’s just a reaction to all the rain we’ve had, or the mystery of that dark mirror.
The earlier version, Fogged Morning at the Pond, can be seen below. Enjoy!
