What is the character of November? For many people, it evokes the beginning of the holidays, and the proximity of winter. But I see something else. Winter is a season without secrets, and it is the open quality of November that I explore in my newest painting, Deep November. Leaves are gone, the pond is clear of lily pads, which are now sinking to the bottom, and you can see through the trees. Everything is exposed. Tree limbs coalesce into a static of toothpicks in the distance. Colors soften. October is all about red, gold, and orange. November hushes us with violet, gray, sienna, and a few lingering dusty greens. November persuades us with gentle charms and invites us in. I love November, and invite you to join me for a walk around this Concord pond. Enjoy!
