TM8480 Tapestry 30×50 oil on panel

This painting grew out of the experience of painting the foreground water in  Last Days of Summer.  The abstract patterning of reflections and vegetation on the water deserved to be the sole focus of a painting, so I started Tapestry before its predecessor was even finished. The result is a densely woven display of features from the pond’s surface – a tapestry of colors, textures, reflected lights, and floating leaves. it was an exhilarating process – figuring out how to encode the details while keeping the impression abstract. The feel of the painting is meditative – a restful play of color from a distance with an abundance of realistic details to savor up close. Details below. Enjoy.
