Magical places do exist, and Bass Rocks in Gloucester is one of them. I keep going back because it is always changing, always surprising me. Recent spring tides and a series of passing storms brought spectacular waves to the coast. With every visit I stood hypnotized, as close as safety would allow, shooting pictures of the waves and their unique structures. When I downloaded the camera, I realized there would soon be quite a few new coastal paintings underway. I think what draws me back to painting the ocean is the power of the water, the abstract, moire patterns it creates, and the bliss of those sweeping brush strokes. Details below. Enjoy.
Beautiful work!
Beautiful! I can feel the spray on my face. Recently read “The Outermost House” by Henry Beston.
Are you familiar with his work? I can pass the book on to you if you’d like. He is a naturalist writer who is best known for the year he spent on Cape Cod and the resulting book. I thought of you often while reading.
Thank you for the suggestion. I checked, and the BPL has the book. I look forward to reading it.
“Morning at Bass Rocks” hits a high note!
Thank you Gregorio. I confess it surprised me.
I can hear the crashing surf! Love it!
Always a pleasure to offer some refreshment…..
