Magical places do exist, and Bass Rocks in Gloucester is one of them. I keep going back because it is always changing, always surprising me. Recent spring tides and a series of passing storms brought spectacular waves to the coast. With every visit I stood hypnotized, as close as safety would allow, shooting pictures of the waves and their unique structures. When I downloaded the camera, I realized there would soon be quite a few new coastal paintings underway. I think what draws me back to painting the ocean is the power of the water, the abstract, moire patterns it creates, and the bliss of those sweeping brush strokes. Details below. Enjoy.
